There are more than enough products targeted at nerdy white guys like me, and that's probably pretty alienating if you're black and you want to lay down some dope beats - I can see how it might be preferable to work on a machine that was designed by people coming from the same musical place as you rather than what some European or Asian instrument/patch designer imagines you would want. Now, the name and the banding doesn't appeal to me because I listen to very little hip-hop and frankly as a nerdy Euro white guy I can't really relate to their music production approach. So a name like 'Beat Thang' is specifically targeted at the hip-hop market and black music-makers in general - unsurprising given the creative team behind the machine: BKE History | BKE Tech | Simpler to Sound Better ![]() I don't like the name either, but the fact is that it's no more stupid than something called the Megatron 3000 or whatever. As I said, it was a bad marketing move, and I've written before about how I think it was unwise to target the hip-hop market so specifically, which possibly limited sales and thus development revenues to get the software up to the same standards as the hardware.īut although I don't have one and don't want one, I don't care for all the sneering about it. ![]()
